Why Himalayan Pink Salt?

Salt is a mineral composed primarily of two electrolytes- sodium and chloride. Our bodies need this mineral to help maintain fluid balance, regulate blood pressure and more.* Traditional salt may not be as beneficial as Himalayan pink salt because it has been processed and left void of crucial minerals. Himalayan pink salt, on the other hand, is formed from rock crystals of salt that have been mined from the Himalayas, providing calcium, potassium, magnesium and iron. When applied topically to skin, the coarse yet fine texture of this wonderful mineral gently exfoliates skin and balances pH. Please note: as lovely as this sugar scrub will look and smell, do not eat it, but feel free to repurpose any unused Himalayan pink salt not used in this recipe for cooking to receive additional health benefits.

Hydrating Jojoba

Jojoba Oil is a carrier oil derived from nuts produced by the Jojoba shrub. Carrier oils are neutral oils that can be used as a base to dilute and "carry" concentrated essential oils, protecting skin so that it does not come into direct contact with concentrated extracts. Additionally, Jojoba Oil acts as a humectant to seal skin with a protective barrier to lock in moisture, mixing perfectly with the salt in this recipe to make a gentle, exfoliating scrub. Jojoba Oil is also hypoallergenic and noncomedogenic, meaning its structure imitates the skin's natural oils to keep pores free from buildup. Add 5-10 drops of your favorite Paradise Springs Essential Oil in addition to Jojoba Oil for additional aromatic and therapeutic benefits!

What You'll Need

To Make

This recipe is easy to make. Simply measure out 1.5 cups of Himalayan pink salt into a bowl with 1/3 cup Paradise Springs Jojoba Oil. Mix well with a spoon until the salt is completely saturated. Once mixed, add 5-10 drops of your favorite Paradise Springs Essential Oil (we like Geranium or Lavender) and continue mixing. Transfer to mason jars and apply labels to lid with double-sided tape.

Use & Storage

To use, scoop out a handful of salt in the shower and apply as desired, paying particular attention to dry or flaky skin. Massage into skin upwards in a circular motion to exfoliate gently, avoiding the face and sensitive skin. Apply every 3-4 days, no more than twice weekly. Store in a cool, dry place in an air-tight jar.
